Electric Weekender — “How big a deal is range anxiety?”

Posted on Leading The Charge Blog by Rachelle Administrator · August 28, 2018 10:31 AM

At exactly 197 km from Christchurch and a 100 m steep ascent from the nearest fast charger, Maruia was going to be a challenging test of range for an electric vehicle. I emailed Maruia Hot Springs, who were more than happy for me to plug my car in to charge during our overnight stay, so that took care of the return journey; we just had to get there.  ...

Range Anxiety is a thing. But should it be?

Incentivising EVs

Posted on EV News & Media Roundup by Rachelle Administrator · July 17, 2018 8:26 PM

We know electric cars make sense – but we need a financial push to buy one

EV Charging in Newmarket

From tax incentives to cash grants, ‘price signals’ are the key to increasing the uptake of electric vehicles in New Zealand, writes Victoria University’s Lisa Marriott. ...

"If we are genuinely committed to meeting our carbon targets, words need to be supported by action. Weak policy tools will not achieve strong behavioural change. The road transport sector is one where global experience shows that significant beneficial results are achievable when the tax system is used to influence the price of vehicles. What are we waiting for?"

Lower Hutt to ‘buzz’ with electric vehicles

Posted on EV News & Media Roundup by Rachelle Administrator · June 18, 2018 12:00 PM

A convoy of electric vehicles (EVs) are buzzing into Lower Hutt this month as part of the #LeadingTheCharge country wide road trip.

The exhibition will arrive at Dowse square on Thursday 22 March after having travelled roughly half of their journey from Bluff to Cape Reinga.

Aimed at promoting electric vehicles the silent convoy of BMW i3, Hyundai IONIQ, Nissan Leaf and Tesla will allow Hutt City residents and CBD businesses to see a range of EVs, chat to drivers and even take the wheel for that important ‘test drive’.

Fieldays: Driven takes a look at the new Kona BEV

Posted on EV News & Media Roundup by Rachelle Administrator · June 16, 2018 12:47 PM

For those that can't make it to Fieldays in Hamilton, Sam Wallace of Driven.co.nz has reviewed the new all electric Kona compact SUV in a video here.

One year after launching the company’s first full-electric car, Hyundai has revealed its second EV model for the first time in New Zealand which features double the range, power and segment appeal.

The Hyundai Kona Electric, modelled after the Kona small SUV launched earlier this year, will be the first full-electric compact SUV to go on sale in New Zealand when the first models arrive in showrooms from August.

Due to “massive public interest,” Hyundai New Zealand especially organised a pre-production model to be flown in for the model’s public debut at Fieldays this week.

Hyundai New Zealand General Manager Andy Sinclair says the Kona Electric blends ground-breaking EV technology with New Zealand’s favourite body style, the SUV.

“We have worked hard to ensure New Zealand is one of the very first markets to be able to see the Kona Electric,” said Sinclair.

Final pricing will be announced closer to the launch date however customers can pre-order now from local dealer.

Leading the Charge Wellington

Posted on EV News & Media Roundup by Rachelle Administrator · March 26, 2018 12:00 PM

I’ve seen pictures and blogs from the Leading the Charge EV road trip, feeling jealous that I couldn’t go on the entire Bluff to Cape Reinga journey.

Finally, I joined in for the two days the EV show was in Wellington where it rained both days, though wasn’t windy.

Wellingtonians are hardy folk, so we all put on jumpers and rain jackets and headed to the Dowse Museum in Lower Hutt on March 22.
