Model X Visits Schools

Posted on Leading The Charge Blog by Rachelle Administrator · November 07, 2018 3:13 PM
EV Champion of the Year, Martin Kane, created an opportunity recently to visit two schools with a Tesla Model X.

He was transporting the car from Auckland to South Canterbury and tweeted his plans before setting off.

Te Akau Ki Papamoa School near Tauranga saw the tweet and requested a visit, and two classes of about 40 students met with Martin. The Tesla entertained them with its little "dance" and the children joined in dancing along with it.

Also responding to the tweet was a small rural school on the outskirts of Featherston. With a tight schedule, Martin managed to fit a visit in for them too. Three classes of varying ages had a great time asking questions.

Both schools loved the idea of learning about Electric Vehicles. It fits in with the future-focussed sustainability theme in the NZ Curriculum.

Martin believes the future of mobility is a fascinating topic for school children. As a Champion for Better NZ Trust, he's on a mission to make everyone as excited about it as we are.

If visiting your local school with an EV is something you'd like to arrange, we will soon be able to provide primary-aged activities for you to take along. We will also have a PowerPoint presentation available soon for senior high tech or sustainability classes.
