#LeadingTheCharge EV Road Trip

Tesla S, Tesla X, Renault Zoe, Hyundai Ioniq, BMWi3, Nissan Leaf, Nissan E-NV200 van, Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, Toyota Prius PHEV... and more.

Electric cars tour from Bluff to Cape Reinga each year to help inform the public and to promote electric vehicle uptake in NZ.

Electric vehicles are an important & easy way to lower gig emissions and reduce air and water pollution in our cities and towns. They are also comfortable, economical, fast and fun and are becoming more and more affordable. A second hand EV starts at about $9,999.

Brian Rankine, a local car collector, is planning to bring his 1916 Detroit EV to the event, the kind Grandma Duck and Henry Ford's wife drove, and his Sinclair-C5 pedal assisted EV. He also has a Ford Chevy EV Truck.

USA electric vehicle “star” Chelsea Sexton (“Who Killed The Electric Car” documentaries) will also be there.

At 1pm Rangitāne Tangata Whenua will open the speeches with a welcome, followed by The Mayor’s Welcome address and speeches by Labour MP Iain Lees-Galloway, Massey University Vice Chancellor Prof Jan Thomas, & Better NZ Trust Chair Kathryn Trounson.

The public will be able to see the cars, talk to the owners/drivers, ask questions and collect info on EVs and some rides and drives will be offered. Bring your (clean) drivers licence.

There will be live music from The Sue Pugmire Jazz Combo throughout the event.
