Electric vehicles (EVs) aren’t the stuff of science fiction, they are very real and they are here to stay!

If you haven’t seen an electric vehicle for yourself, come along to an event or talk to a local dealer.  At these events, you will be able to talk to some of the owners or read information about the current EV situation in New Zealand and what steps are being taken to increase uptake.

Palmerston North - 19 Sept - IDEW public talk

    THURSDAY September 19th, 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM

A Talk by Prof Robert McLachlan

A year is a long time in electric vehicles, with e-bikes, e-scooters, and the Tesla Model 3 taking the world by storm (even by surprise!)

In New Zealand, a Clean Car Standard & Discount are up for discussion, and in Palmerston North we have the marvellous new He Ara Kotahi (perfect for personal e-mobility), and all-electric rubbish trucks patrol the streets silently. What will 2020 bring?

Robert McLachlan is Distinguished Professor in the School of Fundamental Sciences, Massey University, and co-founder of the Centre for Planetary Ecology. He writes on environmental issues at blog.planetaryecology.org.

    What is EVolocity?

Secondary students design, build and compete in electric vehicles.

School teams build a vehicle (either a bike or with 3+ wheels) powered by a standard 350W electric motor, controller and two 12V gel cells. Innovation is encouraged as students strive to make their vehicle the fastest with the least drag, and able to cope with the demands of a tight street circuit. The Innovation categories encourage teams to build in object detection and mitigation features along with the measurement and display of key performance metrics.
